Final Fantasy 16’s PC Release Delayed Beyond 6 Months Post PlayStation Debut, Confirms Producer Naoki Yoshida

It’s been confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 is a six-month timed exclusive on PlayStation 5, but details regarding a PC version have been scarce. Producer Naoki Yoshida recently clarified on Playstation’s Japanese blog that while he desires to release a PC version, it won’t be feasible within six months of the PS5 release due to the team’s focus on optimizing for the PS5 platform.

Product Name: Final Fantasy 16
Platform: PlayStation 5
Producer: Naoki Yoshida

“I’ve caused a bit of a stir with my remarks the other day, but I’d like to touch on the PC version. First of all, it is true that FINAL FANTASY XVI is a six-month limited time exclusive on the PS5 platform. However, it is a completely different story that the PC version will be released in half a year. I will make it clear, but the PC version will not come out in half a year,” said Yoshida, via machine translation.

Despite the delay, Yoshida’s statement is an implicit acknowledgment that a PC version is on the horizon, even if it’s not within the six-month window. This is a significant development from previous statements where the existence of a PC version was not confirmed.

“This is because we spent a lot of time and money optimizing the PS5 platform to deliver the best gaming experience. Of course, I would like to release a PC version at some point so that everyone can play as many games as possible. However, even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won’t be able to optimize it in half a year, so it won’t come out in a short span of half a year. I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when,” continued Yoshida.

Given Square Enix‘s recent track record with PC ports, the eventual release of a PC version seems inevitable. Moreover, a trailer from Square Enix itself hinted at a PC release, which further fuels expectations.

  • PS5 Exclusive Release
  • PC Version Optimization
  • Potential Early 2024 PC Release

While the exact release date for the PC version remains uncertain, fans may need to adjust their expectations for a 2023 release, with early 2024 looking more probable. The anticipation for the PC version continues, and any updates from Yoshida or Square Enix will be eagerly awaited by the gaming community.
